MENDHAR, Jan 6 Troops were put on high alert all along the Line of Control (LoC) after a major infiltration bid was foiled in a border Mendhar area in the wee hours of this morning. A group of seven to eight heavily armed militants made an attempt to enter the Indian territory from near Kranti and Kirpan forward posts of army at about 4 am. When army jawans, who were on a patrol duty in the area, challenged them, they opened fire which was returned, according to official sources. To facilitate infiltration by the militants, Pak army also opened fire, targeting Kranti 1, Kranti 2, Kirpan 1 and Kirpan 2 forward posts of army. Indian army retaliated effectively, the sources added. The exchange of fire between the two sides continued till 4.30 am. The militants managed to retreat to safer places on the Pak side of LoC. It was, however, not known if there was any casualty on their part, sources said. The vigil had been further stepped up along the LoC after the intrusion bid by the Pak-based militants, the sources added. |
