Anantnag, Jan 6 : An event aimed to boost adventure tourism in Aru valley of Pahalgam organized by Tourism department evidently failed to pull crowds as a group of locals, believed to be supporters of former tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir, missed him.
According to locals last year Tourism department had organized the mega snow festival in the valley which was attended by hundreds of tourists besides a large number of local populace."We just came to know that the tourism department has organized a program here but after arriving here we witnessed poor participation of locals as well as of tourists which saddened us." Mohammad Ashraf, a resident of Aru valley told Early Times.
Remembering the last year's mega snow festival, Ashraf said, "Former tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir was charismatic personality, for the first time he organized such event here which definitely benefited us as thousands thronged this valley on that day."
This year it seems in absence of any elected government, department of Tourism is giving has lost its pace of organizing such events which are meant to boost the tourism. "I am surprised to know that Tourism department had organized such an event in Aru valley. Last year the same department organized a mega festival which benefited the people affiliated with tourism trade. Department should have organized it on such a scale which can give a boost." Ghulam Mohi-u-din, Manager of hotel Paradise Inn observed.
However, the department said that the event was organized to inaugurate SKI training courses. "it's purely an event organized for inaugurating SKI training courses here but after government formation a mega festival will be organized to boost tourism." Director Tourism Kashmir, Talat Parvez said.
