Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 6: BJP's Mission Kashmir has not badly failed but in the name of wooing Kashmiri voters, some party leaders have pocketed funds worth crores and crores.
BJP has compromised with its core issue for Kashmir Valley but it failed to get respectable votes. Only achievement of BJP's Mission Kashmir is that it has improved financial conditions of a large number of leaders who were indulged into financial irregularities. Credible sources in the party said that some BJP leaders have openly charged commission from candidates who were fielded by the party in exchanging of releasing funds for them for campaigning.
BJP, which has contested elections on 34 seats of the Kashmir Valley, has spent 50 lakhs on each seats. This amount excluded the huge funds worth crores and crores which was spent on advertisement and other election related material. Credible sources in the BJP said that party has spent a whooping amount of Rs 80 crore in Kashmir Valley only that too on the party candidates. Party has also given huge amount to some proxy candidates of the party who had contested elections on different names. Unconfirmed reports said that BJP has spent over Rs 100 crore in Kashmir Valley only and got less than 48,000 votes.
BJP leaders, who had assigned the job of managing elections in Kashmir Valley, are claiming that party votes have increased but reality is that in 2008 only 24 percent people had cast their votes but this time vote percentage was nearly 48 percent.
As per official data BJP has managed to secure 47,584 votes in Kashmir. Of the 34 candidates fielded by the BJP in Kashmir 33 lost their security deposit despite the fact that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had himself addressed a rally at Srinagar.
A candidate loses his deposit on polling less than one-sixth of the total valid votes cast in a constituency.
As per the Election Commission data, the BJP got major chunk of its votes in the Valley from seven constituencies; Devsar (3,892) followed by Shopian (3,384), Tral (2,945), Habba Kadal (2,596), Hazratbal (2,635), Pampore (2,019) and Shangus (2,275).
