| 'Haidar' film lands in trouble, Imam mulling to take legal action against Film Director | | | Shakeel A Khan

srinagar, Jan 6: When misfortunes come even the jelly can break your teeth, goes the famous saying and same has happened with an Imam of a Masjid in Srinagar. Featuring in a scene of the feature film 'Haidar', the Imam not only lost the job, but also feels that he has been socially isolated.
Moulvi Ghulam Hassan Shah from Qazigund who recently lead the prayers in a mosque in Bachi Darwaza, Srinagar has decided to take legal action against Vishal Bhardwaj, Director of the Hindi feature film 'Haidar' for showing him in the wedding scene of the film, reciting verses from the holy Quran.
"It is the case of deception for showing me in the wedding scene of the film, reciting the holy Quran. I was invited to the party to complete the formalities, religious in nature which I have done in the past as well. But little did I know that it was a scene of a feature film and it has done a lot of damage to my repute," said Moulvi Ghulam Hassan.
He said that he had been rendering the services of an Imam in the Baba Dawood Khaki Masjid in Bachi Darwaza from 2007 to 2014. He said that regarding the shooting of the film 'Haidar', (based on the happenings in Kashmir) the director of the film along with his supportive staff was in Kashmir. "As the shooting was going on, a person namely Abid Ahmad Khan, who was my assistant in the Masjid, approached me and told me that my services are required to facilitate a Nikkah ceremony. He accompanied me to big house and the atmosphere there made me believe that it was a Nikkah ceremony going on and at that point of time I didn't know that it was the shooting of a film going on," said the Imam.
When my turn came, as he went on saying, I offered religious services including the recitation of the verses from the holy Quran. He said that when the film got released, the people got all fire against me on spotting me in the film offering the religious services.
"Sensing the sensitivity of the issue, the administration of the Masjid relieved me of the duty of the Imam as I became a very controversial figure in their eyes. Since then my life has become hellish," said the Imam.
To earn the respect of the people, among whom I have lived for so many years, I have decided to take course of action against director Bhardwaj and in this regard I am going to avail the services of a renowned advocate, Firdous Ahmad Bhat, said the Imam. |
