Shelling in border villages on, DC reviews amenities at relief camps

Kathua, Jan 6: Situation along international border in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district remained tense as the firing and shelling from across the border still rocked the forward border villages forcing atleast 4841 souls to different 14 migrants established by the district administration.
According to official spokesperson, rescue operation continued last night and today, bullet proof vehicles and buses were deputed by district administration for evacuation. "After early morning shelling in some areas there was no incident of ceasefire violation during the day time till 530PM when firing was again reported from Pahadpur, Manyari, Pansar and Bobiyan areas of Hiranagar sectors. Pahadpur village was evacuated late evening after inputs of expected shelling, official added.
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with senior officers of district administration showing his solidarity with displaced people visited relief camps at Chhan Khatrian, Hiranagar, Marheen, Haria Chak and also forward areas to take stock of situation and review relief measures. Giving details, DC Kathua, said, "District administration and Red Cross distributed 1250 blankets; ration items, cooked food, first aid camps, drinking water and firewood have also been provided in relief camps while relief measures have been taken at camps and civil supplies ensured in affected villages.'
He said that number of migrants is expected to rise in wake of repeated shelling and accordingly more relief camps have been kept in preparedness. "Two teams of veterinarians and 6 teams of revenue officials have been deputed to forward areas for treatment of injured livestock and make assessment of losses inflicted during border firing, he said, adding, "educational institutions will continue to remain closed for an indefinite period till final settlement of ceasefire violation issue and alternative arrangements are also being made accordingly." DC Kathua Dr Choudhary was accompanied with SDM Hiranagar and SDPO Hiranagar during his tour and interacted with affected people to know about the relief measures at the various camps. Later, the DC convened a meeting of camp commanders and camp officer at Hiranagar to review amenities as camps and requirement of stocks.
