Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 6: "Over seventy villages located close on the International Border (IB) have been severely affected due to cross border firing and people who have been moved to safer places have been put in about 39 camps where they are finding it difficult to cope up with the situations. Lack of funds and coordination is making these families suffer in prevailing harsh winters as well".
This was stated by People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Hamid Choudhary.
Drawing the attention of Central government towards these migrants, Choudhary Hamid said that there is an urgent need of special funds for which Centre must come forward and ensure that people get adequate facilities to carry on with their routines. He said that though district administration and army have jointly put in massive efforts in making people comfortable still a lot needs to be done to save lives of people who are facing the brunt of firing as well as winters.
Choudhary Hamid said in many camps people were in need of blankets and paucity of which is making children suffer.
He also drew the attention of government towards loss of livestock and hope that once peace dawns here, assessments will be made for compensating people.
Children, He said were the worst sufferers whose studies have been badly affected. He asked the government to make arrangements for regular schools within the camps so that students' studies don't get affected.
He added, 'sudden spurt in the incidents of cross border firing all along International Border (IB) in Jammu region has triggered a panic amongst locals putting up in villages of Hiranagar in district Kathua. Choudhary Hamid said there should be no compromise with safety and security of villagers, their livestock and their homes and hearths. He said that administration must allot land to these people at safer places so that they can live comfortably where their routine is also not affected.
