Governor's admn shelves NFSA implementation
2/3/2016 12:09:53 AM
Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 2: As the deadlock over the new government formation in Jammu and Kashmir continues, the implementation of the much hyped National Food Security Act (NFSA) hangs in balance with the state authorities preferring to shelve it for now. The date fixed for the implementation of the Act was February 1, 2016 but there is not even a single word over its implementation. With many heaving a sigh of relief over the non- implementation of the new food act in the state, several are asking questions over how could such a vital act be shelved sans any reason on ground. It was informed prior to the imposition of the Governor's rule in the state that the new distribution system of subsidized ration will have three categories - priority, non-priority and exclusion. Debates and discussions over NFSA and food security in the state have already been witnessed with NC and Congress jumping into the chorus- demanding its immediate roll back. Earlier, sources in the Government had revealed to Early Times that apart from the major political controver...

BJP looks towards NC, offers 'lucrative deal'!
2/3/2016 12:09:25 AM
Government Formation Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 2: Fearing that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may turn the tables on them, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly trying to lure National Conference to avoid the mid term polls in the state and to maintain its grip over the power, sources told Early Times on Tuesday. They claimed that "cold response" of the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has led to BJP exploring all the possible options and BJP leaders are in touch with NC people. "If Mehbooba refuses to take oath and form the government we have to make other options work to prevent midterm polls," said a BJP insider. He claimed that "politics is art of possibilities" and any...

Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 2: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti met with state Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan here in Jammu as per schedule and, as was expected, she disarmed her critics who had asserted and reasserted that what she said at the Srinagar meeting of the party on January 31 was a "mere posturing" and that she would assume the office of Chief Minister sooner than later. Divide power 50:50 or end alliance
2/3/2016 12:08:28 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 2: The PDP-BJP coalition in Jammu and Kashmir, which has come under considerable strain after the death of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, is a classic example of two partners with different strengths not understanding where the other is coming from. The stark reality is that the PDP, which will now be led by Mehbooba Mufti, is a Kashmir party with a Muslim vote base while the BJP is a Jammu party with a Hindu vote base. It is a marriage of equals, and in such a marriage, power has to be divided close to 50:50. That is what has not worked. The PDP may technically be the senior partner, but it has only three seats more than the BJP. He also adds that the mandate of ...

For the sake of ideology leaders should be like Mehbooba
2/3/2016 12:08:20 AM
Early times Report JAMMU, Feb 2: One may or one may not endorse the self-rule doctrine of the PDP. In fact, the people of Jammu and Ladakh do not endorse it; they oppose it tooth and nail on the ground that it is divisive and long for the state's full integration with India. Leave aside the BJP, which has no ideology and which is known for bartering its ideology, core agenda and even its own constituency for the sake of power. It was rightly said by one BJP detractor that the "BJP is intellectually and ideologically immoral, corrupt and bankrupt". Similarly, one may or may not endorse the PDP's pre-conditions for re-stitching alliance with the BJP. In fact, the nationalists across the ...

Former Minister digs Jhelum banks for security barrack
2/3/2016 12:08:07 AM
Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 2: Even as Governor NN Vohra has asked the administration to act with iron hands against illegal constructions, a former minister is getting more floors constructed in an illegal building to accommodate his security guards, who otherwise had to live inside his palatial house at Sheikh Bagh here. After the fast-track construction of the ground floor with cement slab during the first week of Governor's rule, the construction of the first floor has also been completed, even though Revenue officials said it was sheer encroachment of the government land and "misuse of power". One such incident has been reported from Panchayat Hochak under block Ukerhal of tehsil Ramsu district...
