As doctors stay in clinics, patient care remains a concern in Valley

SRINAGAR, Aug 25: The patient care in the hospitals of the Kashmir Valley continues to remain a concern as the doctors prefer to see the patients at their clinics rather than at the hospitals. The claims of the government that the private practices of the doctors posted at different hospitals of the valley will not tolerated, has proved to be a damp squib. In fact the government has no control over its employees and the doctors enjoy this freedom to the maximum. With the government unable to pay the attention to this burning issue, has messed up everything in the hospitals of the valley.
The senior doctors have left the affairs of the hospitals to the junior ones hence affecting the patient care very badly. These doctors have become the masters of their own will as they don't consider themselves accountable before the man and God. It depends upon the mood of the doctor whether to make it to the hospital or not. It is for him to decide when to arrive at the hospital and when to leave. It is a common experience, at least in the valley that the serving senior doctors keep their clinics open till late in the morning and they return to their clinics even before the duty hours are over. "Gone are the days when the doctors considered their services the services to God. Today's doctors want to become the billionaires over the night and who can stop them from realizing their targets because these doctors charge a patient with a fee of more than three hundred rupees and a doctor makes more than hundred observations per day," said a patient namely Mohammad Shafi from Srinagar while sharing his opinion with the Early Times. It is about the junior doctors who man the hospitals like the SMHS inthe absence of the seniors, especially during the dark hours. The casualty of this premier hospital of the valley continues to receive a flood of patients, some of them with the complex problems and the juniors seem to be less capable in handling such patients. It is hardly at some point of time during the day, depending upon the mood that the senior doctors come in contact with such critical patients."As the darkness tightens its grip, the activities related to the patient care virtually come to a grinding halt. It appears as if the doctors go into the hiding. This can be proved by the fact that if a patient develops a complicacy during the night, the attendant of the patient has to search for the doctor and it is after the repeated pleas that the doctor heeds though with a disgust on his face to assess the patient," said Shakeelu Rehman whose father was admitted in the hospital.
