Superintendent’s wife skips night duties | No lady doctor available at night in ailing Anantnag hospital | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, Aug 25 : Besides several requests from paramedical staff, Medical superintendent Maternity and Child Care Hospital Sherbagh Anantnag has failed in ensuring presence of a senior lady doctor in the hospital during the night, as the Medical Superintendent has allegedly exempted his ‘wife’- a doctor posted in the same hospital from night duties. Highly placed sources told Early Times that general public and paramedical staff of the hospital has repeatedly requested the Medical superintendent for keeping a senior female doctor available during the night hours, keeping in view the heavy flow patients in the hospital. They said that attendants frequently turn violent and ransack the hospital for non-availability of senior lady doctor at night. “In case of serious complicacy we have to ring a lady doctor, maximum times they keep off their cell phones off or when they arrive they take too much time which is unbearable to a patient as well as for us”, a hospital employee wishing anonymity told Early Times. Currently hospital is witnessing heavy rush of patients from almost three districts of South Kashmir while as patients from Banihal and Rambhan also visit the hospital. Public has also been demanding night shifting of senior doctors who, however, prefer to stay in their clinics. The doctors on several occasions have denied attending duties. Reason behind the denial is the exemption of lady doctor who is wife of Medical Superintendent. They said senior female doctors continue to put down the Medical Superintendent’s requests. When contacted Medical Superintend MCCH Anantnag, Dr Mehrab denied the allegations and said that his wife was attending her duties regularly. “All these allegations are baseless; my wife is attending night duties, visit the hospital and get facts checked,” he said. He said that he can’t make senior doctor available in the hospital as they are available on call. “How can I ensure it? Senior doctors are different, they have to make surgeries. In case of any complicacy we have the doctors available besides on call they (Senior Doctors) are also being made available”, he said. |
