JAMMU, Aug 25: Brimming with confidence after the overwhelming success it tasted in the Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has set a target of 'Mission 44+' for itself in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
However, the BJP high command, which is trying its level best to accomplish the mission, is somewhat far from reality as the big-wigs of the state unit are keeping it in dark of the core issues which could make or break party's prospects in the forthcoming polls.
If party insiders are to be believed then the party high command's calculations to achieve the desired goal of 'Mission 44+' is not based on ground realities and is cobbled around the assumptions of state leadership.
"Though BJP central leadership is hoping to cash on the success of parliamentary polls in the assembly elections…. The party high command is dreaming of forming a government for the first time in J&K but surprisingly it is forgetting that party always fared poorly in Kashmir province where 46 seats are at stake," said sources.
"There was no impact of Modi wave in Kashmir during Lok Sabha polls and party could meet the same fate in the assembly polls if the central leadership keeps on having a blind faith on the state unit leaders who misinform them that party has strong footing in five to six segments in Valley," they added.
What sources had to further inform Early Times was not only startling but beyond belief as they told that since J&K is poll bound, the high command will pump huge funds for the state unit to facilitate the expenses to be borne on campaigning and related matters.
"It is an open secret that BJP high command sanctions special funds for Kashmir valley to bolster party fortunes…There are few elements in the state BJP, who acts as self-styled facilitators and bring massive funding in the name of improving party's position in Kashmir region," said sources.
"Some state leaders or to say collaborators in the state unit convey wrong information to high command that BJP is having upper hand in so and so seat in Valley though they hardly have any first hand information of that particular segment…. It is being done just to exploit and mint money from the high command…Some vicious elements in the state BJP has made it a habit of befooling the central leadership just to earn money," they added.
Sources further said that there are hardly any workers of BJP in Kashmir on ground which came to fore during a function held at party headquarter on the occasion of Independence Day where not more than 10 people were present when tricolour was hoisted.
"BJP needs to change its strategy as instead of concentrating on Kashmir which is a futile exercise and which is reaping fruits for only few selective, the party should rather focus on areas where it holds a strong grip…. The party's old guard also feels that efforts should be directed towards making further inroads in Jammu and Ladakh regions," said sources.
"BJP also needs to make penetration among various communities of the state especially among Sikhs, OBCs and SC& STs… Women cadre should also be groomed in a proper manner…. They need to be given more representation in the organization," they added. |
