Ram Madhav meets Governor after CM tossed the ball to Centre | Cross-border shelling relief | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 25: BJP's National General Secretary Ram Madhav flew to Srinagar today for a meeting with Governor N.N. Vohra after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told the National Panthers Party MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia in Assembly that the issue of cross-border shelling on the International Border (IB) in Jammu was a Central subject and thus required to be answered by the Centre. MLA from Udhampur, Mankotia wanted Chief Minister to make a statement on the incessant Pakistani shelling in Jammu's border areas and the situation arising out of it. Over 10,000 residents have reportedly shifted to relatively less vulnerable areas in the 5-km border strip after two civilians got killed and about a dozen injured in Arnia and Ranbirsinghpora last week. Chief Minister refused to make a detailed statement and argued that today’s sitting on day one of the autumn session was restricted to paying tributes to the former legislators who had passed away in the last four months. He said he had no objection to the discussion if Speaker Mubarak Gul included it in the business for tomorrow or thereafter. A Department of Information press release said: "Omar Abdullah said while government was fully aware of the difficulties of people and is taking all necessary measures to mitigate these, the issue of shelling across the LOC and its reply is the matter to be tackled by the Centre Government". On his arrival in Srinagar after an extensive tour of the worst-hit border areas in Jammu, Ram Madhav called on Governor Vohra and sought the intervention of his good offices to bring it home to the Chief Minister that the responsibility of providing relief to the internally displaced population needed to be shouldered jointly by the State and the Centre. The State Government has taken the issue of not opening a government office for the displaced population seriously and ordered some of the delinquent officers' suspension on Sunday. Staying at Broadway Hotel on Maulana Azad Road, Mr Madhav interacted with the local BJP leaders and discussed with them the latest obtaining political scenario ahead of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. MLA from Jammu Choudhary Sukh Nandan was the only BJP legislator present in Srinagar. He called on Mr Ram Madhav at Broadway Hotel and discussed with him the State's political and pre-election scenario. Sources said that the groundbreaking exercise had begun in Kashmir and Ladakh to wean away a large number of the estranged and disgruntled leaders from National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. According to sources, tickets with adequate financial support, were being offdered to many of the prospective entrants who would be fielded by the BJP in different Assembly segments. If these efforts succeeded in near future, the BJP President Amit Shah would induct the politicians into his party at a public meeting at Sher-e-Kashmir Park next month. |
