Defence Estates Officer sits on compensation case file

Srinagar, Aug 25 : As the Defence Estates Department has already started disbursing the money to affected families of three villages in Budgam near Srinagar International Airport as per previous market rate fixed in 2009 , the Defence Estates Officer (DEO) Srinagar is yet to forward the recommendations of the Deputy Commissioner Budgam to his higher ups in Delhi ie the Office of Director General (DG) Defence Estates Department. According to documents available with Early Times the Collector Land Acquisition (DC Budgam) has recommended rate for land acquisition between Rs 18 to Rs 20 lakhs per kanal in Karewa Damodar , Kralpora and Wathoora villages and the these recommendations were forwarded to the Defence Estates Officer Srinagar in early June this year but till date the file has not reached to the Defence Estates headquarters in Delhi. The acquisition of around 3900 kanals of land at Karewa Damodar and villages near Srinagar’s International Airport and the process was delayed reasosn better known to authorities. The disbursement of money was also delayed and the ultimate sufferers are the locals whose land has been acquired and in return have been paid peanuts. “The rate provided to affected villagers of Karewa Damodar etc for is just  Rs 6 lakhs per kanal. Worthwhile to mention land is sold or purchased  on much higher rates i.e Rs 90 lakh per kanal in the areas like Humhama , Gogo, Rangreth etc  situated outside the acquired areas of Kralpora, K Damodar and Wathoora villages near Srinagar International Airport“ said Moham-mad Abbas an aggrived from Budgam. Pertinently the fresh  recommendations for accessing market value of land by the DC Budgam who is the Collector for Land Acquisition has been forwarded to Defence Estates Officer (DEO) Srinagar on 9th June 2014 vide Letter No: DCB/Def/Coll/112/014/185 dtd: 9/6/2014 , but the file is still pending with Defence Estates Officer as the officials at the helm of affairs in Srinagar office of Defence Estates Depa-rtment demand huge cuts from the farmers. Farmers and villagers have approached the Defence Ministry through some Members of Parliament (MP’s) and soon a delegation of farmers would be meeting with Arun Jaitley along with a group MP’s in this regard, sources said.  When Early Times contacted a top official at  Defence Estates Departments headquarters  located at Ulaanbaatar Marg , Delhi Cantonment , said that the said file has not reached to the DG’s desk yet , but he assured that he would take up this matter with DG  Ravi Kant Chopra without any further delay and direct the Defence Estates Officer Srinagar to expedite the said work .
