Omar concedes defeat, inaugurates incomplete projects | | | Fazal Khan
Srinagar, Aug 25 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seems to have conceded defeat even before the dates for the forthcoming assembly elections have been announced. He is inaugurating incomplete projects to ensure that his successors don’t take credit for it and has trained guns at media for highlighting his failures. Omar on Sunday inaugurated an incomplete hospital at Chanapora in uptown here. During his speech Omar made a point. “I am inaugurating incomplete projects to ensure that nobody takes credit of the developmental projects we have started,” he said. The Chief Minister while referring to the projects which were started by the Congress led UPA-I and UPA-II said, “It is unfortunate that they didn’t handover the projects to public before relinquishing power. Presently Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking credit for it and is inaugurating the projects which were set up by his predecessors.” The PDP spokesman Naeem Akther, while commenting on Omar being in hurry to inaugurate incomplete projects, said, “He has conceded defeat and knows that National Conference has no future. He (Omar) is just seeing darkness ahead.” “Omar has realized that the government led by him failed to deliver and there is no possibility of NC returning to power. Inaugurating incomplete projects depicts his frustration,” Akther told Early Times. A professor from University of Kashmir said the NC candidates biting dust in the recently held parliamentary polls has made Omar “pessimistic.” “His approach and body language have changed. Till date he is indecisive about where to contest from,” the professor said. “ Had he (Omar) been a successful and powerful chief minister he could have contested from anywhere. Fear of defeat has crept into him and he is not sure about what to do.” “The autocratic approach of the NC and Congress ministers during the past five and a half years has pushed people to then wall. They gave vent to their ire by voting against Congress and NC candidates in the Lok Sabha polls,” the academician said, adding, “It is not only Omar who has conceded defeat his ministers too have realized that at least for next six years road had ended for them.” Omar during his speech on Sunday also alleged that PDP has “purchased” newspapers and has launched “propaganda” against his government. “He (Omar) cannot tolerate healthy criticism. It’s the duty of media to highlight the public issues. If he feels that its propaganda then one cannot say anything,” said an Editor of a Kashmir based daily. He said, “When militancy was at peak no government interfered in media functioning, however, in 2010 Omar imposed a gag on the local media following which Valley based newspapers had to suspend publications for more than 15-days.” “Omar has nothing to highlight that’s why he is targeting media,” he added. The BJP’s Kashmir spokesman Khaild Jehangir while talking to Early Times said: “Blaming newspapers for indulging in propaganda is not fair. Media is duty bound to act as a watchdog and highlight such issues which government fails to address. Omar sahib should see to it that the public issues highlighted by media are sorted out rather than making it a personal issue.” |
