LC condemns ceasefire violation, pays tributes to former legislators | | | Mustansir
Srinagar, Aug25; The Upper House of the J&K legislature today condemned the ceasefire violations from across the border in which two civilians were killed and six injured. Legislative Council of the bicameral legislature which met here today for week-long Autumn session, condemned the violation of ceasefire along LoC and internal Border resulting in loss of life and property at many places. "The House condemns the cross-border firing incidents across the state in which several civilians were killed recently," Chairman, Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra said. He said the House offers condolences to the families of those who were killed in the firing. Pakistani troops fired at the Indian posts along the International border in Jammu on Saturday killing two civilians and injuring more than six people including a BSF jawan. Earlier the House paid tributes to four former legislators from the state who died over the past six months. Chairman, Amrit Malhotra moved the obituary motion in respect of Chaudhary Mohammad Aslam, the sitting MLA from Surankote at the time of his death and former legislators Abdul Ahad Vakil, Mohammad Akbar Ganai and Mehmooda Ahmad Ali Shah. While Aslam and Vakil had been speakers of the state Legislative Assembly, Ganai had served as a minister and Mehmooda as MLA of the state assembly. |
