| Says, Farooq, Omar ruined NC | | Shaheen joins ANC | | Fazal Khan
Srinagar, Aug 25: Ruling National Conference suffered another jolt on Monday when its rebel leader and former Member Parliament Abdul Rasheed Shaheen joined Awami National Conference (ANC) along with his supporters here.
Shaheen had raised the banner of revolt earlier this month and had accused the NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and his Chief Minister son Omar Abdullah of "ruining the party." He had blamed them for the "mess" NC is at present.Shaheen had launched a scathing attack on provincial presidents of the National Conference Nasir Asalm Wani and Devender Singh Rana by calling them "junior most" in the party.
After formally joining the ANC led by Khalida Shah sister of the NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah, Shaheen said, ""The existing National Conference is not a party that was founded by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and that is why I decided to quit it. I joined ANC that represents the vision and aspirations of Late Sheikh Saheb."
The former NC leader said that he is in touch with his former NC colleagues and some political voices outside NC to join hands with ANC.
"It is the neglect shown by Dr Farooq and his son Omar Abdullah that has taken toll of NC's popularity," he said, "Wrong policies of the father-son duo led top party's debacle in the parliamentary polls."
"Dr Farooq and Omar have sacrificed the National Conference's agenda for the sake of power Today, I along with my supporters are joining the real National Conference under the leadership of Begum Khalida Ji and we pledge to work for this party sincerely." On the occasion, Begum Khalida Shah while welcoming Shaheen to her party fold said: "Her party will field candidates on all 87 assembly segments." |
