Congress, NC, PDP responsible for miserable plight of Gujjars: Gani
8/26/2014 12:17:06 AM
Jammu, Aug 25: Jammu State Morcha today while highlighting the problems being confronted by the Gujjar community of Jammu and Kashmir State today held the successive Governments and leaders of Congress, National Conference and PDP responsible for their miserable plight.
Gani Aftab, the Vice President of Jammu Sate Morcha while highlighting the issues being confronted by the Gujjar Community of Jammu and Kashmir State held the successive Governments and leaders of Congress, National Conference and PDP responsible for their miserable plight.
He charged them for consistently pursuing the discriminatory policy against the Gujjar Community.
Gani said that the community constitutes about 35% population of the State but their representation in the State Government services is barely 3%. "
The Government of India granted ST status to the Community in 1990 but till today the state government has not given them their due representation in the State Assembly and in the employment, he lamented. He also said no seat has been reserved for the community in the assembly of the state under ST category. "Having 35% of the population the community has only 6 MLAs in the State Assembly out of 87 members of State assembly, whereas the community is represented by only 3 ministers in the state cabinet, he added. He added that Gujjars are a backward lot, economically, socially and educationally and no special efforts have been made for their upliftment and to bring them in the mainstream. "Their condition is worse as compared to the community residing in other parts of the country, he added. Gani also held article 370 responsible for their present condition as it deprived them of their due rights.
At the same time he held the leaders of Congress, NC and PDP responsible for poor plight of Gujjars and said they did not allow them the part of the national main stream and enjoy the benefits as our other counter parts are enjoying in rest of the country. He also advocated for the creation of separate states for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
Chandra Uday Sharma, Devender Singh Jamwa, Ramesh Singh Bhau and Gulam Mustfa were also present in this meeting and put forth their point of view in this meeting.
