TD mars career of 168 youth, fails to impart advanced training | Farmers, MP's to meet Jaitley | | Arun Singh
Jammu, Aug 25: The failure of the Department of Tourism to impart advanced courses to 168 youth has shrunk their possibility to sustain in this profession. They had been trained for adventure activities Sources in the department told Early Times that Director Tourism Jammu in 2006 had conceptualized an idea to organize training programme for local youths in adventure activities to enable them to earn livelihood and promote adventure tourism in the state by providing services to the tourists. They further said that accordingly it was proposed to train local youth as instructors in mountaineering/skiing with the help of the Jawahar Institutes of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM) so that they can ultimately emerge as independent service providers for the adventure activity in the state. “Though 168 candidates were sponsored to JIM for short duration basic adventure courses like skiing, mountaineering, paragliding etc during the period from January 2008 to August 2011 by the director Tourism Department Jammu, none of the candidates had been sponsored for special/ advanced instructors courses during the period from 2008-9 to 2012-13,” they said.In the advance training programme the youth had to be imparted training in Snow Skiing, Water Skiing, Trekking/Mountaineering, White Water Rafting, Paragliding etc but in absence of the advance courses the chances of the participants to upgrade their skills and to act as instructors/ guides for adventure tourism have become break, they added. |
