Jammu/Srinagar, Jan 13: It was a quite affair at Nawa-e-Subh Complex, the Srinagar headquarters of National Conference where the working committee –comprising few legislators and other party leaders, mostly those who lost the recent assembly elections –gathered for a ‘change of guard’ and the patron Dr Farooq Abdullah was named as president of over 70-year old party which functioned in Jammu and Kashmir as a movement for over half of the past century.
The organizational crown simply returned from third generation Abdullah to the second generation Abdullah who had earlier inherited the mantle from his father in 1981 and donned it for two decades.

When in 1981 Dr Farooq Abdullah was installed as President of the National Conference the entire Srinagar city had come out of its slumber to greet the young Abdullah. Men, women and children had come out on the roads right from Mujahid Manzil, the party headquarters upto the Iqbal Park to cheer Dr Abdullah. Several thousand party supporters had been seen walking on foot right from Mujahid Manzil to the Iqbal Park, a distance of over five Kilometers shouting pro-Sheikh Abdullah, pro-Farooq Abdullah and pro-National Conference slogans. New Delhi, Jan 13: The government may on Thursday cut petrol, diesel and domestic LPG prices, besides freeing fuel pricing from administrative control, a petroleum ministry official said on Tuesday.
The Cabinet, scheduled to meet on Thursday, may reduce petrol price by Rs 5 a litre, diesel by Rs 3 per litre and domestic LPG by Rs 25 per cylinder, giving relief to the common man and further easing inflationary pressures, he said.
State-run oil companies are currently making Rs 9.70 a litre profit on sale of petrol, Rs 3.70 a litre on diesel, but are loosing Rs 31.70 per LPG cylinder and Rs 11.69 on every litre of kerosene.

Jammu, Jan 13: Downward slide in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has been made possible due to close coordination among various security agencies, a senior Indian Army commander said Tuesday.
A high profile meeting of core group of security agencies was held at the headquarters of 16 Corps in Nagrota, around 15 km from here, to review the security situation in light of the successful conduct of the state assembly elections and the forthcoming Republic Day.
The meeting was presided over by Lt. Gen. R.K. Swamy, the General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the 16 Corps, who is also an ex-officio security adviser to the state government.
