Jammu: Lodging a strong protest with Pakistan Rangers over the border skirmishes on Republic Day, the BSF on Wednesday said Pakistani forward posts were instrumental in facilitating infiltration into Indian territory and warned their counterparts of a strong reaction if such incidents continued.
At a flag meeting with Pakistan Rangers, the BSF raised the issue of firing by them to provide cover to infiltrating militants and its four forward posts involved in the firing and ceasefire violation yesterday, senior BSF officer told agency.
The BSF gave all the details of weapons including RPGs, rockets and UMGs fired from across the border on the Indian posts and made it clear that such violations of border truce will not be tolerated and every action would spark a strong reaction, he said.
The Sector Commander (DIG) level flag meeting, which lasted 45 minutes, was held at Octerio Border Out Post (BoP) along the International Border in R S Pura sub-sector, he said.

Jammu, Jan 27: Intense cold conditions on Wednesday abated in most parts of north India with minimum temperature rising in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and in parts of Jammu and Kashmir though higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh reeled under sub-zero temperature.
People in Jammu and Kashmir got some respite from intense cold conditions. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2 deg C, four degrees above normal. Kupwara had a low of 1.5 deg C, while Kokernag and Pahalgam, both in south Kashmir, had a minimum of minus 1 deg C and minus 0.4 deg C respectively.

JAMMU, Jan 27: Two incidents underplayed the spirit of Republic Day in the region Tuesday. One concerns a minister who left a function halfway, while the other is linked with the district administration of Poonch which came in the eye of the storm for allegedly honouring "undeserving" people on the occasion.
A function was held in a ground at Kaili Mandi in Samba jointly by private and government schools. Cooperative Minister Manohar Lal was the chief guest.

New Delhi: Coming down hard on the Army officer indicted in the Sukna Cantonment land scam, Union Defence Minister AK Antony on Wednesday recommended court martial of Lt.Gen. Awadesh Prakash.
"The Defence Minister has advised the army chief to initiate disciplinary action against Lt Gen Prakash (Military Secretary in the army)," highly-placed Defence Ministry sources said here today.
Disciplinary action could lead to a court martial against Lt Gen Prakash, who is in the dock in the scam along with two other Lieutenant Generals and a Major General.

Srinagar, Jan 27: Militants on Wednesday evening attacked the vehicle of the area station house officer with a powerful hand grenade that exploded injuring a cop in Lar village of north Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
A senior police officer said militants lobbed a grenade at the vehicle of SHO Ganderbal near Lar village on the Srinagar Leh highway this evening.
"The grenade exploded near the passing vehicle injuring a policeman, who was shifted to hospital for treatment," the officer said. The SHO, however, escaped unhurt in the attack.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Srinagar, Jan 27 : With the arrival of Western Disturbances (WD) in Jammu and Kashmir resulting in cloudy weather, the night temperature was four degree above normal this morning while the day temperature had gone down, though it was still about eight degree above normal.
Official sources said WD, originating from Arabian sea had entered the region after passing through Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Though they are not fully active, but there can be rain or snow at few places in the state during the next 24 hours, they said.
However, on January 28 and January 29, there are possibility of snow and rainfall, which could end the long dry spell.

The State Government has decided to map the ground water resources in Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said that the Government would take help of Remote Sensing technology of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in mapping the water resources to study depletion and find new sources keeping in view the future needs.
