SRINAGAR, JAN 8: The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has maintained that people of Jammu and Kashmir have given the new Government mandate for speeding up development and improving basic amenities like bijli, sadak and paani.
He said that with the improvement in the overall security scenario, the attention of the Government has to shift towards developmental activities.

Jammu, Jan 8: After his return from Srinagar, Omar Abdullah is likely to move into the Civil Secretariat in the winter capital Friday first time as Chief Minister.
His nine Cabinet Minister are also likely to get their much awaited charges of department by Friday evening. However, sources in both National Conference and Congress were unable to confirm this. They cryptically maintained that discussions on distributions of portfolios were final stage.

Jammu, Jan 8: Peoples Democratic Party patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has arrived in the Winter Capital City late this afternoon.
Mufti was accompanied by senior party leaders including some former Ministers. He will be putting up in Jammu for next few days where several party meetings have been scheduled, sources said.
The Peoples Democratic Party is overwhelmed at winning two seats in Jammu region –first time ever –and keen contest at three other seats. At one seat –Rajouri –the PDP candidate lost to the Congress with a little over 300 votes.

Jammu, Jan 8 : The gunbattle between militants and security forces in a forested area of Poonch district entered its eighth day Thursday with soldiers continuing to fight weather and the tough terrain to eliminate the infiltrators.
The shootout in the forests of Mendhar area of Poonch erupted last Thursday after the Indian Army laid siege to the Pati Tar peak in the middle of a forest following a tip-off about the presence of a group of hardcore militants there.

Srinagar, Jan 8: No fresh guest arrived from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) today though 25 people crossed sides at Kaman post, the last Indian military post on the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector.
The Karvan-e-Aman bus service was started between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, the capital of PoK on April 7, 2005 to enable the families divided in 1947 to meet each other.
Meanwhile, 12 mini trucks, loaded with different articles arrived here from PoK while only two with goods crossed over to other side of the LoC.
The truck service was started between the two parts in October last year.

Jammu, Jan 8: The eleventh Legislative Assembly, awaiting its first sitting, has come up with three former Chief Ministers but two of them are all seat to vacate their seats.
The assembly elected after 2008 elections is the first in history to have as many as three former Chief Minister as its members –Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
