| Academy writes to CM on 38 illegal appointments | | | |

Jammu, Feb 11: Following litigation of a Nepali national challenging termination of his services, the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, popularly known as Cultural Academy, has sought intervention of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to decide fate of 38 employees recruited in violation of rules.
The Cultural Academy has been facing criticism and also a case in the State Accountability Commission for 38 appointments made in violation of rules during the years 2006 and 2007. Interestingly, one of the employees appointed in violation of rules is Narbahadur Singh Rana, a Nepali national.

Jammu, Feb 12: Lobbying has intensified in all major political parties for seat in the Upper House as Election Commission has notified schedule of elections for filling up 12 vacant seats of the State Legislative Council.
The Election Commission of India have finalised the dates for the conduct of biennial elections to the 12 seats of Legislative Council of Jammu and Kashmir .
The Notification for the elections would be issued on February 16, 2009. The last date for making nominations is February 24, the nominations would be scrutinized on February 25 while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is February 27.

Jammu/Katra, Feb 12: To boost the tourism potential of Jammu region by diverting pilgrims to nearby locales, the government is about make a creative beginning –the road between Jammu and Katra will soon get wayside cafeterias, viewpoints and facilities.
This was decided today after Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora visited the holy township of Katra along with officers of his department. The Vigilance Organization has registered Case FIR No 4/2009- u/s 5(1) (d), 5(2) PC Act 2006 r/w 120-B RPC against three engineers of Public Health Engineering division Bijbehara and two contractors for their involvement in purchase of material on highly exorbitant rates thus putting the state exchequer to a loss of over Rs.5.23 lakhs.

Jammu, Feb 12: The Rajwansheer Railway Station in Budgam has been renamed as Mazhom Railway Station after the name of the village of its location.
The Chief Minister had taken up the matter with the Central Government saying that there was no village in Kashmir with the name of Rajwansheer. He had requested the Centre to rename the Railway Station as Mazhom Railway Station as it is located in the village of the same name.
Following the Chief Minister's intervention, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in a letter has intimated to the State Government its no objection to change the name of the Rajwansheer railway station on Qazigund-Baramulla railway line in J&K.

Jammu, Feb 12: The Central Vigilance Commission has initiated probe in scrapping of an ambitious project leading to change of alignment of Udhampur-Qazigund Railway line after construction loses of nearly Rs 500 Crores.

Islamabad: In a much-awaited reply to the Mumbai attacks dossier, Pakistan on Thursday admitted that ‘some part’ of the 26/11 conspiracy was in fact plotted in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s interior minister Rehman Malik on Thursday told reporters that his government has acted on information given by the Indian government.
“Ajmal Kasab and nine others have been named in the FIR, out of whom six have been arrested,” Malik informed.
“Some part of the conspiracy was plotted in Pakistan but a major part was shaped in India. The terrorists were trained by Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Lakhvi,” Malik informed.
