| Manu reelected Press Club prez, almost entire team repeated | | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 26: In a keenly contested and watched over election, a veteran journalist with long standing experience, Manu Shrivatsa was re-elected as the President of the Press Club of Jammu, results of which were declared late last night.
Press Club of Jammu, it may be mentioned here, is the only organized and democratic elected body of professional journalists in Jammu and Kashmir with membership from across the state. Many leading journalists from Jammu and Kashmir working on other parts of the country are also members of the Press Club of Jammu.
It was literally an endorsement of the massive infrastructure development and other academic activities carried out in past few years that almost entire team was re-elected in the election polling for which was held on Wednesday.
Editor of Urdu Daily, Taskeen, Suhail Kazmi has been re-elected as the Secretary General while among other office bearers elected were: Raju Kerni of Zee News as Vice President and Zorawar Singh Jamwal of Associated Press/ JK News Plus as Treasurer.

Doda, Feb 26: A day after the gruesome road accident that took toll of 41 lives, another road accident has been reported from Doda district in which two persons were killed and eleven others injured. With today’s tragedy, the human toll in road accident across erstwhile Doda district over past eight months has reached 100. As many as 174 persons were injured in these accidents.
With in twenty four hours of the barbaric accident, another accident took lives of two persons and left eleven injured when truck driver lost control over steering while negotiating a curve at Mechar, Bhagwah 40km from Doda. The truck plunged into a deep gorge killing two persons.

Jammu, Feb 26: Leader of Opposition and the Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti said that the grace period for new coalition government is over as it has failed to protect the innocent lives of the people of Kashmir valley.
She was taking part in an adjournment motion on Sopore killings moved by PDP legislators in legislative assembly today. She further said that the unprovoked firing by the Army in Bomai village at Sopore which resulted into the death of two innocent youth has once again triggered the unrest and atmosphere of mistrust in the valley and people have started showing their resentment through protests and shutdown.

Srinagar: In a significant judgement, Jammu and Kashmir High Court today banned functioning of house boats in the endanger Dal Lake in the valley.
Meanwhile, the authorities have started sealing of house boats operating in Dal lake and other encroachments surrounding the lake.
The Court directed the authority to stop operation, functioning of hotels, house boats and commercial units that have been mentioned in the PCB report.

New Delhi, Feb 27: Central government employees and pensioners will get an additional six per cent dearness allowance from next month, putting a burden of over Rs 6,000 crore on the exchequer.
Employees and pensioners will get the additional DA with retrospective effect from January one this year, as per a decision cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) here.
The revised DA would be 22 per cent, payable from next month's salary, against 16 per cent at present, Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters here.
The combined burden of the increased DA to employees and the retired will be Rs 6,020 crore from January 2009 to February 2010, he said.

New Delhi, Feb 26 : The Government today approved a proposal to upgrade 264 km of National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir.
This is part of the North-South corridor on the Srinagar-Jammu section, Home Minister P Chidambaram said after the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) that gave the approval.
''Whichever section gets the DPR approval and environmental clearance first, road construction will be taken up there,'' he said.
''Our intention is to complete the vital road in Jammu and Kashmir,'' the Home Minister said.
He said approval was also given for the four-laning of four projects in Kerala and one in Tamil Nadu on PPP mode.
