Beig contests tall claims in budget: contradictory, misleading | Vouches for representation to backward areas in govt | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 6: A day after Finance Minister AR Rather presented budget in the J&K Assembly, opposition PDP termed the figures and claims made by the government as misleading and contradictory to the 'gloomy and grim' picture in the Economic Survey Report. PDP also attacked government for its failure to come up with a 'roadmap' for grey areas where it contended the government had faltered miserably to suggest some corrective and remedial measures.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig who initiated the debate in the House using his oratory abilities interspersed with pun and satire in fact made two pronged attack on both economic as well as political front, contesting the claims of NC led coalition government. Beig said whatever has been described as achievements by the government were only 'jugglery of figures' as these are not only incoherent and contradictory but also misleading. | | Woes of upper house; legislators, officers, ministers, all play truant | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
Jammu, Mar 6: Despite state government expressly defending its continuation, legislative council has seemingly lots relevance not only for officers of state government but also for legislators who are members of this house of elders.
If legislative business of the present budget session is any indication, neither officers nor legislators have been taking the upper house seriously. Barring question hour, Officers gallery of legislative council remains empty for most of the time. Visitor's gallery too suffers the same fate. The gallery for ex-legislators and other parliamentarians remain vacant throughout the day.
