Ready to meet Pak halfway: PM

Early Times Report New Delhi: Nearly seven months after the Mumbai attacks stalled bilateral talks, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday tried to reach out to Pakistan, saying New Delhi was prepared to meet Islamabad "more than halfway" if the latter takes "strong, effective and sustained action" against terrorists. Indicating possibilities of resuming the bilateral dialogue that came to a pause following the Mumbai carnage, Manmohan Singh stressed that "it was in India's vital interest to try to again make peace with Pakistan". He, however, qualified it by saying that "it takes two hands to clap" and asked Pakistan to create an appropriate atmosphere for lasting peace. "There are some disturbing trends, but I do hope that the government of Pakistan will create an atmosphere in which we can realise this vision," Manmohan Singh told parliament. "I expect the government of Pakistan to take strong, effective and sustained action to prevent the use of their territory for the commission of acts of terrorism against India, or against Indian interests, and use every means at th...

Mumbai June 9: A key index of the Indian equities markets, which opened 47 points lower than its previous close today, soared back into the green to rule 343 points up about 30 minutes after noon. Around 12.30 p.m., the benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was ruling at 15,009.47 points, 343.55 points or 2.34 percent higher than Monday's close. It opened at 14,618.98 points and soon plunged to a low of 14,526.69, but started recovering in the late morning session. SALMAN NIZAMI JAMMU June 9: Ajaz Ahmed of Banihal believes his father could have survived, had he been provided first aid in the hospital vehicle shifting him to Jammu. In 2008 , a grenade was lobbed by suspected militants in the busy market of Banihal township on an army vehicle. The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the road injuring civilians, some of them critically and Ajaz’s father was among them. Although admitted to the emergency hospital Banihal, he was referred to the Governmnet Medical College and hospital Jammu by doctors, owing to less Medicare facilities available in the hospital. Early Times Report Jammu, June 9: The Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir Government has placed 54 Inspectors of the Executive Cadre as Deputy Superintendents of Police in their own pay and grenade. According to an Home Department order, their promotion is on officiating basis and shall be confirmed by the Departmental Promotion Committee. ARUN TRISAL KATHUA, Jun 7: The Government’s repeated instructions, making it mandatory for the Industrial Units, being set in Jammu and Kashmir, to provide maximum employment to the locals are being openly floated by the unit holders. According to a survey not a single unit holder has implemented the government instructions and instead has violated Labour Laws in vogue in the state.
