JAMMU, Sept 21: Complete bandh was today observed in the neighbouring districts of Kathua and Samba and other smaller townships of these districts in response to a two-day shut down call given by Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti following “mysterious” sabotage of a function where the martyrs of agitation were to be honoured at Abhinav Theater on Saturday morning.
In the Winter Capital City of Jammu, which witnessed unprecedented raging protests throughout the months of July and August, the effect of shut down call was not as effective as expected. Shut will continue for Monday as Samiti had asked for two-day bandh as a mark of protest and warning.

JAMMU, Sept 21: In a much awaited respite ahead of the holy festival of Navratras followed by Eid and Diwali, the government has released salaries of the employees of the public sector State Road Transport Corporation.
According an official spokesman the SRTC employees have called off their strike after the Government released the salaries and sanctioned the slabs of Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in favour of the employees with effect from April 1, 2008.
Decision to release the salaries and sanction the COLA was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Governor, Mr N N Vohra, in Srinagar.

JAMMU, Sept 21: Keeping in view the doctrine of "speedy trial" as suggested by the Law Commission, the Veerappa Moily panel appointed by the Centre has come out strongly in favour of setting up Special Courts for quick disposal of terrorism related cases.
The report on 'Combating Terrorism' has said a new comprehensive anti-terrorist legislation should have provisions for constitution of Special Fast Track Courts "exclusively for trial of terrorism-related cases."

JAMMU, Sept 21: A late night hunt has been launched in Chhani Himmat, Greater Kailash, Sainik Colony and adjoining areas after three suspected militants were spotted by an auto rikshaw driver.
Police sources said that an auto rikshaw driver identified as one Rakesh Kumar reported that three youths believed to be militants boarded his rikshaw from Digiana for Chhani Himmat. He said that he took the boarders as routine passengers as they offered him Rs 100 as tariff to reach Chhani Himmat. New Delhi, Sept 21:India and Pakistan will discuss tomorrow the modalities for launching cross-LoC trade and other confidence-building measures related to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Joint Working Group on cross-LoC CBMs, comprising senior officials, will seek to marry ideas of the two sides in an effort to ensure early start of new measures, official sources said here today.
Launch of commerce on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route would be high on agenda of the discussions, they said.
India has been keen on launching the cross-LoC trade since the proposal was first mooted in 2005 but the two countries have failed to reach a consensus on issues like items to be traded.
