| JSM castigates Govt, for not adequately compensating victims | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 11: Jammu State Morcha (JSM) today condemned the state government for not allegedly adequately compensating the victims of Kishtwar violence. According to press release, JSM said members said that the minimum compensation fixed was far less than the losses suffered by the victims. "It is essential that the affected ones should get the reasonable compensation, at least to the tune of loss suffered by the individual, including the estimated cost of construction/renovation of the house and, or business complex damaged and the material/articles damaged or looted", they said. JSM demanded that the family members of a person who was killed in the riots should at least get Rs 10 lakh and the person injured should get at least Rs one lakh in addition to the expenditure that was to be incurred on the treatment. JSM also condemned the move launched by separatists, leaders of National conference and PDP for disbanding the Village Defense Committees. "The move is being made by some people who are against the peace and have vested interests to keep the situation vulnerable in J&K state. The well meaning political leaders of the state, including the chief minister, leaders of the national political parties, the concerned parliamentary committee and the defense and para-military forces have lauded the role of VDCs in controlling the terrorism in the state, particularly in the hilly areas. The situation has not improved to that extent to disband the VDCs", they said. |
