JCC intensifies agitation, calls for evening protest march up to CM’s residence

SRINAGAR, Sept 11: The Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) of the government employees today intensified their agitation in support of their demands by announcing fresh programme of five days including two days of pen down strike starting from Tuesday. Addressing a press conference senior JCC leader and President, Employees Joint Action Committee-Qayoom (EJAC-Q), Abdul Qayoom Wani said the state government is adopting a silence over the fulfillment of genuine demands of government employees. Qayoom said that employees would continue their struggle as long as their demands are not met by the state government. Announcing the agitation programme, Qayoom said that government employees would observe a complete pen down strike on September 20 and 21. He said the employees of Civil Secretariat would like the previous occasions support the other government employees and observe strike as well on the two dates. He added that the five day agitation programme would start on Tuesday September 17and culminate on Saturday September 21. "On September 17 the government employees would assemble at the district headquarters and raise protest against the state government for their alleged apathy. The protest demonstrations would be led by JCC leaders and it would be reiterated that the struggle would be taken to its logical conclusion," said EJAC-Q President. Qayoom said that employees of Civil Secretariat would protest inside the premises of Civil Secretariat on September 17. He said on September 18 the employees of Kashmir division would assemble at Sher-i-Kashmir Park and in the evening the employees would carry out the bonfire lights in their hands and march towards the residence of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. The JCC leader said that employees of Jammu division would under the leadership of JCC leader Mohammad Gafoor Dar would carry out a similar protest demonstration up to the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu. He said the employees of Civil Secretariat would protest against the state inside premises of Civil Secretariat on this date as well. "On September 19 the employees of Kashmir division would once again assemble at Sher-i-Kashmir Park and march towards Raj Bhawan, the official residence of Governor N N Vohra. The employees of Jammu would assemble outside the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and carry out strong protests in support of their demands.
The employees of Civil Secretariat would protest under the leadership of Rauf Ahmad Bhat on this date as well," said Qayoom. Qayoom said that employees of Leh would carry out protests under the leadership of Syeda Ladakhi while as protests at Kargil would be led by Mohammad Mujtaba. He said the employees of the entire state would observe complete strike on September 20 and 21. He added that employees should remain steadfast on their demands and should not give up on their struggle.
The press conference was organized after a meeting of JCC leaders which besides Qayoom was attended by Rauf Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Gafoor Dar, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, Fayaz Shabnam, Farooq Ahmad Trali, Ghulam Rasool Geelani, Manzoor Ahmad Pampori, Pir Nisar Ahmad and others.
Meanwhile, normal work was affected in all the government offices for second consecutive day on Wednesday on the call of JCC that had called for a two day pen down strike across the state. The government offices wore a deserted look with minimum presence of the employees thus paralyzing the normal activities.
