Commission asked to file report in Kishtwar violence in 30 days, given logistics after 16 days

ET Report
JAMMU, Sept 11: The State Government is seemingly non-serious over Kishtwar violence and its enquiry by retired justice, as only fourteen days have been left for retired Justice RC Gandhi to submit his enquiry report, but requisite services including staff, vehicle, accommodation beside others, have only been provided to him today.
Sources informed Early Times that on August 24, 2013 one man Commission of Inquiry of former High Court Justice RC Gandhi, was asked to enquire into August 9, communal clashes and subsequent incidents of violence in Kishtwar, but so far the enquiry has not started, due to delay on part of Government.
The enquiry officer has been asked to submit report within one month, but if sources within the administration are to be believed, State Government was not interested in comprehensive enquiry report, so Justice RC Gandhi was given requisite services after 18 days, since his appointment as enquiry officer.
"Now only 14 days have been left for RC Gandhi to submit report. Due to delay on part of Government, retired Justice RC Gandhi will not be able to thoroughly examine all the facts", an official said.
He further alleged that the Government has been buying time and has deliberately delayed in providing services to Gandhi, as some of the politicians were not interested for in-depth probe of communal clash. "If the enquiry officer will get adequate time, many hidden facts will be unearthed which can also create problems for some politicians", sources said.
Pertinently, the Commission has been asked to inquire into the circumstances which led to the violence and arson and the consequent loss of life and property in District Kishtwar and also the administrative lapses, if any, while handling the situation.
As per Government order, retired Justice RC Gandhi has been asked to fix the responsibility of the persons, involved in acts of violence, arson and the loss of life and property. The Commission has been asked to perform all the functions necessary for holding of the inquiry or incidental thereto and submit its report to the Government within a period of one month that is on September 24.
