| Deadlock between two communities ends | | DC Kishtwar chairs all party meeting | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Sept 11: Administration in Kishtwar District finally achieved a major success in bringing the representatives of two communities on negotiating table after the continuous deadlock of nearly 5 weeks since communal clashes of August 9. The breakthrough was achieved during a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Baseer Khan, which was also attended by DIG DKR Ashkoor Ahmed Wani and SP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal. During the course of the meeting, the representatives of both the communities affiliated with different political parties assured full cooperation to police and administration for maintaining peace and communal harmony in the district. While addressing the meeting, representatives from both the communities demanded stern action against the culprits involved in Eid violence followed by wide scale loot, arson and burning of public and government property, besides claiming lives of three innocent people. All the speakers demanded adequate compensation for all the victims, settling of insurance cases, and police protection for business community. They also favoured an inquiry into old communal clashes with the prayer to police and administration to bring the real culprits to book. They warned the police and administration against framing of innocent people in false case. Many among the speakers shows displeasure over soft approach of police and administration towards the real culprits and added that those involved in real sense are roaming freely, while few innocent people were behind the bars. They also demanded a government job in favour of the kith and kin of those who lost their lives during clashes. While addressing the gathering, DIG DKR Ashkoor Ahmed Wani informed the all party meeting that police investigation is heading towards the right direction and assured them that no innocent persons will be framed. He said that police has also recovered some weapons stolen from a local gun shop and added that efforts are on to recover the remaining stolen weapons. He said that he had passed instruction to SP Kishtwar to speed up the process of investigation, beside to identify those persons who were responsible for creating communal flare without considering their political or religious affiliation. He also thanked the political representatives of both the community for their participation in today's joint meeting. He said that he was hopeful that peace and communal harmony will return in Kishtwar soon and people will again start living together. Deputy Commissioner also assured the all party leaders that their genuine demands will be looked into and assured the traders that the compensation to the effected persons will be distributed in next few days. He said that in addition to work for the maintenance of peace and communal harmony, the aim and objective of the police and administration is bring the culprits to book. He said that administration will take stern action against the guilty persons and assured them that culprits will not be allowed to go scot free. Meanwhile BJP and Santhan Dharam Sabha decided to boycott the all party meeting. Among the prominent who attended the meeting include Farooq Siddiqui, Ishtaq Waza, Vaid Prakesh Gupta, Rakesh Gupta, Nek Ram, Umar Malik, D D Farooq, Imtiyaz Zarger, Anil Parihar, Pardeep Singh Parihar, Ajaiz Naik, Ghulam Qadir Malik, Rajinder Kumar Sen, Suresh Sharma, Ghulam Hassan Mir and others. |
