Katra, Sep 11: These days, Katra the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Shrine has turned into a garbage dumping yard, due to ongoing strike of Safai Karamcharis, which entered on second day today. Heaps of garbage can be seen at Main Bazar, Pantal Chowk, main bus stand, besides littered garbage, chocked drains is general picturesque of Katra town these days. The striking Safai Karamcharis today hold a peaceful protest rally at Katra town, in favour of their long pending demands. Speaking to Early Times, President of Katra Safai Karamchari Union, Kala said that hundreds of Safai Karamcharis have been working since last around 15 years but were not regularized, due to apathy of concerned department. "Many employees are on the verge of retirement but are still getting meager salary. Moreover the contractual employees are getting 29 days salary while one day salary has been curtailed by Municipal Committee, which is open loot of labourers", he rued. He further said that until the government would not concede their long pending demands, they would not call off their strike. "We will intensity our strike, as we are fed up by repeated assurances given by concerned administration and government representatives", he said. |
