Locals defy curfew in South Kashmir, 25 sustain injuries | | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, Sept 13: Defying curfew in South Kashmir's Shopian district, locals especially youth took to streets in various localities and clashed with security forces. The clashes left 25 including 17 security men wounded. Eyewitness said that soon after the Friday prayers, youth pelted stones on a police vehicle in Goal Chowk. The vehicle was completely damaged. Security forces retaliated by firing tear smoke shells. During the clashes 2 policemen sustained injuries. Clashes also broke out between security forces and stone pelting youth at Kanipora, Bangam, Jan Mohalla, Gagran and Malik Mohalla, during which 22 persons including 8 CRPF men and 7 policemen sustained injuries. Injured were shifted to nearby hospital for first aid treatment. Meanwhile Clashes between Security forces and youth broke out at Redwani Kulgam, 1 civilian has sustained minor injuries during these clashes. However, the situation in Anantnag, where the curfew was clamped for the first time today remained peaceful excluding a protest demonstration at Seer Hamdan area of district. Pertinent to mention that curfew has been clamped in Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama since 7th of this month, the day when CRPF killed four civilians in the district. |
