| FIR registered against 3 cops for rape; ASI among 2 arrested, involvement of senior officer investigated | | PA to SSP absconds, protests in Reasi; DM assures action | | Sumit Sharma JAMMU, Sept 13: Tarnishing the image and credibility of the police force, three police officials including an Assistant Sub Inspector and a Head Constable were booked following the complaint of kidnapping and gang rape registered by a teenage girl in Talwara, under Reasi Police Station. The trio was booked following the protests and complaint by the parents of the girl to senior police and administrative officers alleging that they kidnapped and later committed rape on their girl during their visit to Talwara a couple of weeks ago. The trio was taken to Talwara by a senior police officer unofficially. Earlier, soon after the incident, they lodged complaint to the same police officer who took trio with him in Talwara but he preferred to remain mum over the issue and made his best efforts to hush up the issue. DIG Udhampur Reasi Range Gareeb Dass when contacted said that involvement of senior police officer is being investigated. Later the people from the area carried out massive protests and blocked road following which District Magistrate Dr Shahid Iqbal deputed ADM Tilak Raj Shastri on the spot. Protests eased after an FIR was lodged and information about arrest of the cops involved was given to public. Police have registered an FIR No. 122 u/s 366/34 and later added Section 376 CrPC after confirmation through medical examination. Statement u/s 164 was recorded before CJM Reasi. Following assurance given by DM Shahid Iqbal and SP Sharief Chouhan the protestors agreed for a two days time to ensure arrest of absconding former PA to SSP Satvir Singh. Meanwhile Police arrested ASI Harmesh Mehta and SPO Karnail Singh for committing the crime while Satvir Singh managed to flee. Last night acting on specific information Dy. SP (HQ) Reasi under the supervision of SP Reasi conducted a raid at the hideout where the girl was illegally confined. Police arrested three cops from the spot and girl was rescued however Satvir Singh fled away and hunt has been launched for his arrest. Suspecting the fleeing of S. Satvir Singh from the spot, the parents of the victim along with other protesters alleged that PA to SSP Reasi, S. Satvir Singh was engaged in same malpractices since long and they had been complaining about him repeatedly in last 6 months but no action was taken. The protesters demanded that the trio should be booked and punished under Law for committing such a heinous crime of kidnapping and committing rape. Police are looking into these allegations as FIR has been registered. Interestingly, the kidnapping and rape on teenage girl came to limelight in Reasi the day Supreme Court ordered hanging of the four youth involved in Delhi Gang rape. |
