| Amid simmering communal tension, Kishtwar pays tributes to martyrs | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar , Sept 13:- Amid simmering communal tension post August 9 violence, people of Kishtwar cutting across affiliations remembered the five martyrs of 1974 and 1981 who laid their lives for establishment of Degree College at Kishtwar in 1974 and for grant of District status to Kishtwar in the year 1981. On this occasion an impressive function was held at Shaheedi Mazar Kishtwar, beside thousands of people from different walks of life including college/school students visited the Martyrs graves and paid rich tribute to them and offered flowers. People of Kishtwar since early morning offered flowers to the graves of martyrs and paid rich tribute to martyrs Mohammad Iqbal Zarger son of Wali Joo Zarger resident of Zarger Mohallah Kishtwar, Ravinder Kumar son of Dhani Ram Gupta resident of Near DC Office Kishtwar, Gain Chand son of Sola Ram resident of Nagni Kishtwar and Abdul Kabir Sheikh son of Ahmed Joo Sheikh resident of Abubakar Mohallah Kishtwar on their 39th death anniversary. All the four youths in late 20's laid their lives on 13-9-1974 for the cause of students while fighting for sanction of Degree Collage at Kishtwar, where as another youth whose name is also Mohammad Iqbal Zarger son of Bahar Ahmed Zarger resident of Chinar Gali Kishtwar laid his life on 17-1- 1982. As per the elders, the reason behind the success of both the agitation was the bond of love and communal harmony between the two communities living together in communal amity from centuries. While addressing the gathering of prominent citizens and students, various speakers highlighted the incidents related to college and District agitation. The speakers urged the people of Kishtwar to maintain peace and communal harmony. They said that only strong relationship between the two communities can defeat the nefarious designs of those elements who want to divide the people of Kishtwar on the basis of religion. The speakers strongly condemn the Eid violence and killing of three innocent people and urged upon the government and administration to act tough against the culprits behind August 9 violence. They urged the students to act as a bridge between the two communities and advised them not to fall prey to anti social elements who want to contaminate their minds by soaking the seeds of hatred among them. Speakers also paid homage to late Thakur Seva Ram Parihar and Ghulam Hussain Ahanger alias Arman Kishtwari for their important role in both agitations. Among the prominent who spoke on this occasion included Manmohan Gupta, Umar Malik, Ajaiz Naik, Ashfaq Sheikh, Thakur Jughal Bhyandari, Anil Parihar and others. |
