Police constable shoots self

Kishtwar, Sept 30: Allegedly denied leave sanction by his seniors, 24 year old police constable Sahil Sharma Belt No: 693/KTR of 2011 batch and a resident of Shastri Nagar Jammu shot himself with his service rifle inside guard room at CID HQ Kishtwar while performing sanitary duty.
As per the reports, the incident took place at around 3.55 PM today when police personnel on duty heard sound of a gunshot and rush towards the guard room and found Sahil Sharma lying in a pool of blood.
The policemen on duty immediately brought the matter into the notice of senior officials and rushed the injured to District Hospital Kishtwar. The doctors performed operation but his condition deteriorated due to loss of blood. He was finally referred to GMC Jammu.
The Kishtwar doctors said Sahil Sharma had a bullet injury on his left side of the chest. They added that the bullets had slightly hit the external portion of the heart before it came out of his body.
People living in and around District Police Line Kishtwar where CID HQ Kishtwar is situated rushes inside their homes in panic, besides some shopkeepers also closed their shops fearing terror attack.
All senior officer including SP Kishtwar Sajay Kotwal, Additional SP Thakur Kulbir Singh, Dy SP HQ Farooq Qaiser Malik and SHO Kishtwar Sameer Jeelani also rush to hospital and make necessary arrangements for shifting of injured police constable. Police has also registered an FIR at police station Kishtwar and started its investigation. Senior police officers are tight lipped over the exert reason which force Sahil Sharma to make an end of his life. The sources informed the "Early times" that the injured police constable was tense from last few days due to some personal problems.
It is pertinent to mention that in wake of the aftermath of Kishtwar violence and to overcome shortage of policemen, the senior police officers of Jammu and Kashmir have decided not to sanction leave in favour of constables including the top rank officials.
