| NC Ministers move privilege motion against VK Singh | | PDP brings motion on innocent killings, Defence Ministry expose | | Bashir Assad Srinagar, Sept 30: All sitting and former ministers of the ruling National Conference (NC) today moved a breach of privilege motion in the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly against former Indian Army chief VK Singh for his remarks that ministers in the state were taking money from army. According to assembly Secretariat those who have moved the breach of previlege against VK Singh include, Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather, Rural Development Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Forest Minister, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Higher Education Minister, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mir Saifullah, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution System, Choudary Mohammad Ramzan, Minister of state for Animal Husbandary, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Minister of State for Science and technology, Feroz Ahmad Khan, former ministers, Abdul Gani Malik, S S Salathia, Aga Ruhullah, Qamar Ali akhoon, former ministers of state, Nasir Aslam Wani, Javed Ahmad Dar and Sajad Ahmad Kichloo. Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather while speaking on the obituary motion in the assembly said that the former army chief, General VK Singh, had damaged the image not only of the Indian Army, but also of the country internationally. "He has set fire by issuing a statement alleging that payments were made to some ministers and members of this august house. He cannot be allowed to now go and sit silent in his house. If he has proof, he must put it in the domain of this august house," Rather said. "I request every member of this august house to support the motion and put the former army chief in the dock of this house for attempting to bring down the prestige of this house. The house has the power to do so," the state finance minister said. Assembly Speaker Mubarak Gul confirmed that his office has received the privilege motion against V.K. Singh, and the order would be passed shortly. The motion comes in the wake of VK Singh's claims that payments have been made by the army to ministers in the state since Independence in 1947, for "winning people's hearts". State Minister of Agriculture and Congress leader Ghulam Hassan Mir had received Rs.1.19 crore from the army, the general alleged. Meanwhile Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also moved two motions in the legislative Assembly and Council to discuss the recent expose made about the extra constitutional methods adopted in J&K reportedly since 1947 to subvert democratic system in the state. The party served notice for special discussion in the subject. The party also filed an adjournment motion for discussing the series of killings of innocent people in incidents at Gool, Kishtwar, Shopian and Markundal Bandipora, which have compounded sense of insecurity among masses. The party Chief Spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said these notices have been submitted to the speaker of the Legislative Assembly today. According to him similar notices have been submitted to the Chairman of Legislative Council for discussion in the upper House. Copies of the notices are reproduced here in. |
