| Omar's Ganderbal resents scarcity of ration at CAPD counters | | 50000 families without APL cards in privileged constituency | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 30: Notwithstanding the passage of the much talked about Food Security Bill in the Parliament the consumers in J&K are facing the scarcity of ration and ironically, things have changed from bad to worse since the passage of the Bill. There has been a hue and cry all over the State against the shortage of food grains on Consumer and Public Affairs Department (CAPD) against the non availability of ration on its depots and even at various places the ration of September was not distributed till date. People even complain that those issued with APL ration cards by the Government are deprived of ration by the CAPD on the plea that the Department has not received the supply till date on account of these cards and non availability of sugar and kerosene has also generated lot of resentment amongst the masses. According to sources the migrant ration card holders especially those belonging to APL category at various places have been deprived of ration supply by the Department on the plea that there quota has not been released so far. According to sources the situation is same in the entire State and people are facing the problem in each and every district. Sources said in Ganderbal , the Assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Department has a shortage of 3500 APL ration cards on the basis of census of 2001 while the Department needs over 50,000 more ration cards on the basis of census of 2011. This was informed by a senior officer of the Department to a joint delegation of the representatives of Peoples Welfare Society, Senior Citizens Forum and Peoples Conference recently. The officer while showing his inability in distributing ration to the APL category said that his hands were tied as the Department is not being given the supply against APL card holders. "If this is the condition in the Chief Minister's Constituency, how a common man in other parts of the state can expect a fair deal" said resident , adding "when CM could not get the quota of ration for the district which is his home constituency how can he help the people living in other parts of the State". |
