| 'Darkness' descends in Congress Hqrs as PDD snaps power supply | | Sudden move loaded with political vendetta ….? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 30: Darkness descended in the Headquarters of the Congress in the winter capital today in literal sense as the power supply connection was suddenly snapped by the Power Development Department headed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The sudden move seen more as loaded with vendetta has raised many eyebrows on account of the timing chosen by the department to cut the electricity supply , no matter for the reason of outstanding power dues that might have accumulated for a longtime against the Congress office right in the heart of the city at Shahidi Chowk. Sources said when the functionaries and staff reached the office this evening they found power having been snapped by the Department , apparently on the pre text of dues not having been paid . While this came as a shock to the party sharing power in the coalition regime led by NC, the disconnection also left the things and work affected in the office where most of the rooms already exist in dark and dingy conditions on account of the old structure of the office building. However, more than a measure in routine by the PDD which is on snapping spree for the purpose of recovering long pending outstanding amount from residential. Official and commercial establishments, this is being seen as one with vindictive intension. The sudden move , sources said can further push the NC-Congress ties to edge as the party leaders are viewing it as having come post senior leader and PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma's bold statement against Chief Minister in questioning Omar's existence and continuation on highest chair while he persists with his rhetoric on incomplete accession of J&K with India. Pertinently, Sham Lal Sharma two days back made a scathing attack on what Omar continues to rake up at frequent intervals this issue, and contended if that was so how Omar has taken the oath of office . This , sources said has irked the NC rank and file , though no reaction has come publicly and specifically on this uttering. While the party has yet to react on sudden disconnection of power supply it faced , perhaps for the first time in years , sources said the leadership may desist from doing so in order to avoid bickering on such apolitical issues. What has come as a surprise to the party in power is the fact that the Department apparently on directions from the higher ups has snapped the power supply on selective basis as there are all dues outstanding for almost all the offices of political parties both in Kashmir as well as Jammu. Not only the offices of political parties, huge amounts are pending against the various government departments as also against political dignitaries including ministers besides a number of bureaucrats . PDD's campaign to recover the outstanding dues is appreciable but the question remains what was urgency of snapping the power suddenly when no such exigency is being shown to ministers, ex ministers and all political party offices … |
