| NC forcing entire Legislature to antagonise Army | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 30: The J&K Assembly is in collusion course with the Army. The National Conference has moved a privilege motion against the former army chief General VK Singh. The National Conference is raking up this issue for quite a while but by moving this privilege motion the NC is taking the entire legislative branch against the Army. Speaker though did not confirm if the motion has been accepted but since it has been moved by the ruling party it's more likely that it will be accepted. NC for its own political gain is forcing this issue on the entire legislature. It has forced the issue on Peoples Democratic Party-the principal opposition party. Strangely it's getting support from the seven expelled BJP MLA, who have also moved the adjournment motion in this regard. The NC in the process has further strained the relation with the Congress its coalition partner. The Congress being the ruling party in the Centre has desisted from making any statement on this issue. The NC believes that by raking up this issue and forcing the former Army chief to make a statement before the House will help it politically. It's assumption is based on the fact if the Army chief makes statement before the House, then it can show case it that the party has made the strongest institution to bow before the people -read Kashmir. The party in process is antagonizing the entire Army establishment which has a tradition of respecting its retired officers and in this case it s the Army chief who is involved. There is in continuation with the pattern adopted by the NC. Union minister and president of NC, Dr Farooq Abdullah has recently said that Gen (retd) VK Singh be stipped of the title of Colonel of the Regiment., NC is deliberately trying to lock horn with the Army after it has lost the battle on the issue of Armed Forces Special Powers Act. Omar Abdullah was totally frustrated by the Army on this account and forced to keep silent. Any further pressing of the issue will even evoke counter reaction from Jammu region, which has history and tradition of sending people to Army. It will further hit the party in this region and it's doing at its own peril as party is surely to lose ground in the Valley. |
