| Pak trained militants revive attempts at destabilising peace in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 30: Even after the schedule for a meeting between Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and his Pak counterpart Nawaz Sharif, had been announced there has been no respite from the activities of militants, operating within Jammu and Kashmir and from the routine ceasefire violations and infiltration bids. Just 72 hours before Manmohan Singh-Nawaz Sharif meeting militants attacked a police station and an Army camp in Hiranagar and Samba, in which 10 security personnel were killed. And 24 hours before the Singh-Sharif meeting Pak troops resorted to ceasefire violations at five places on the LOC in Poonch sector. And in between there has been no respite from ingress bids being made by militants with the assistance of Pak troops. In Kupwara sector alone as many as 13 infiltrators have been killed during the last three days. Official sources today said that militants have been asked to carve out new hideouts in those areas which have not witnessed any incident of subversive incidents during the last three to five years and these areas include Kathua, Samba, Hiranagar and areas on the outskirts of Jammu and Srinagar city besides some localities in the civil lines areas, including Jawahara Nagar and Raj Bagh colony. Sources said that apart from organizing terrorist strikes militant outfits, operating in Jammu and Kashmir, have been directed by their handlers across the border to start afresh recruitment of local boys who could be used in carrying weapons and explosives to various areas in the state. In this connection security forces, especially the police and the state intelligence agency sleuths, have been asked to intensify their surveillance so that hideouts of militants were smashed for recovering arms, ammunition and explosives. Sources said that security forces besides troops, guarding the border, have been told to strengthen the entire security grid and counter infiltration measures so that besides preventing groups of militants from crossing in to Jammu and Kashmir those already inside the state were eliminated in massive anti insurgency operations. Police circles are of the opinion that the security scenario may register disturbing trends with dates for the Lok Sabha elections drawing near. Police authorities and those manning the CRPF have been suggested to coordinate with intelligencies agencies so that mischief mongers, having the potential of kicking up communal trouble, were arrested. They have been directed to ensure that in no area in the state Kishtwar type trouble was repeated. |
