| Online election services through Khidmat centres! | | But where are these centres functioning? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 10: An advertisement published by Chief Electoral Officer in collaboration with the Information Technology Department proves that the Government is determined to mess up procedures related to forthcoming elections. The Officer has launched online election services through Khidmat centres. The Khidmat centres, if the electoral officer knows are defunct. Protesting at SKICC recently the youth entrusted the job of running the Khidmat centres were carrying placards and banners to register protest. According to them, the promises made to them have not been kept and they are getting any work like collecting electricity bills from the consumers, death birth registration, revenue related services, passport services, election card and ration card services etc. is yet to be implemented and most the centres established four years before are lying useless as and people associated with them are suffering badly. "Till date no revenue generating service has been made available by the Government of J&K on these centres despite making hundreds of representations and deliberations, Government has so far failed to make these centres viable," said one protestor Syed Junaid Andrabi The protestors said that State Government is forcing Khidmat centre operators to suffer along with their families as after hundreds of review meetings were taken up with the office bearers of Information Technology Department over the years and despite orders from the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah as well implementation of orders still seems a distant dream keeping in the outdated work mechanism of the State Government. Election related work is vital and cannot be entrusted to centres that are totally defunct. The centres need to be geared up first. They cannot be revived by issuing an advertisement in the newspapers. |
