Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 10 : The government has become a mute spectator with respect to frequent accidents occurring in erstwhile district Doda .
This criminal silence by the government on a very grave issue, in which thousands of people of Doda and Kishtwar districts lost their lives for past many years, is not acceptable to people of the state who have been left on the mercy of God.
On Wednesday, three people lost their lives when a vehicle met with an accident on Gundoh road. People of the area are very angry over this attitude of government that no concrete efforts are being made to save lives of people who become victims of bloodshed on roads.
"We are simply being massacred in the name of accidents almost every day. Despite repeated assurances by ministers, bureaucrats and political leaders of tightening the noose around those violating traffic rules in an organized manner" said Sajnay Gupta, a resident of Bhaderwah. All departments, related to construction of roads, movement of traffic, building bridges and parapets and others are not performing their duties with honesty which is taking toll on lives of people. An Assistant regional transport officer (ARTO) is handling two districts at one time and he is only busy in signing the documents related to permits, licenses and other related items without going for checks on ground. The PWD department is not managing the roads in the area as most roads are lacking parapets, side railing, proper finishing and black topping. Similarly, the traffic department employees are only busy in Meeting their monthly targets of revenue through challans.
