| Ceiling of GMC's new Emergency block collapsed, security guard injured | | JKPCC does it again! | | ET Report Jammu, Oct 10: A private security guard was injured today when the false ceiling of additional Emergency block of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) which was commissioned just three years back, collapsed. Eye witness informed Early Times that patients and attendants could have sustained injuries and incidents could have turned into major tragedy. "A major tragedy was averted, as ceiling of new emergency block suddenly collapsed and left security guard Rakesh Kumar resident of Janipur injured", said Rahul, an eye witness, adding that the incident at ever crowded new emergency ward exposed non-seriousness of Government towards the maintenance of the building. "It was carelessness on part of hospital authorities for not maintaining the building and even the construction company had not fixed the ceiling properly, due to which a portion of 8x8 feet fell down", an official at GMC&H said wishing anonymity. "High level probe should be conducted over the incident", he said, adding that if Government ordered the probe ,many hidden facts would come to fore. However, the official said, "Authorities have evacuated all patients to other wards. Shifting of patients at other places has created inconvenience among attendants." It is pertinent to mention here that the new Emergency block was constructed by Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) in the year 2009. |
