Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 10: The HR Department of MIER organized an orientation programme on Academic Leadership. The resource person for the session was Maj. Gen. S.K. Sharma, principal MIET. Dr. Renu Gupta, director MIER was the guest of honour. The programme was attended by Dr. Surinder Kour, controller examination, MIER, A.K. Koul, group head-HR & QA, MIER, Dr. P.L. Koul, OSD MIER, HOD's of all the wings of MIER College of Education along with the faculty members of B.Ed , B.Ed Spl. Edu., and M.Ed. Dr. Annie Koul formally welcomed the resource person and introduced him as a very successful leader who has worked in various capacities. Currently leading the premier institution of Jammu, MIET, he is known for his unparalleled leadership qualities. Maj. Gen. Sharma gave an impressive presentation highlighting the meaning of leadership, its various theories and styles like charismatic leadership theory, traits theory, behavioural theory and situational theory. He asked the participants to assess their own leadership style by filling a questionnaire. According to him, the essential ingredients of academic leadership are vision, communication, motivation, problem solving, counseling, value ethics and decision making. The session was quite interactive and the queries of the participants were answered suitably. Dr. Renu Gupta also addressed the participants and said that leadership is simply knowing what to do and getting things done. She said that a teacher is also a leader and the leadership qualities of a teacher determine the success of the students. We all have a leader hidden in all of us and it has to be brought out with training and capacity building. A teacher needs to tune his leadership skills and find the best style of teaching. She also narrated a couple of inspirational anecdotes from the lives of great leaders. Pranav Gandotra, HR manager organized the entire programme. |
