| After open dissent; Lal Singh, spouse seek party mandate again | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 24: Discredited for his open dissidence against his own party in the just concluded Parliamentary elections which led to the defeat of former Chief Minister and then sitting Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Lal Singh is reportedly seeking a mandate from the party for the forthcoming Assembly elections. If sources within the party are to be believed, Lal Singh is going overboard to seek a mandate for himself or his wife Kanta Andotra in the forthcoming elections to regain their political standing in the state. "It is shameful that after turning rebel against his own mentor and working behind the veil for his defeat, Lal Singh is again seeking mandate from the party," said a senior functionary in the JKPCC. "He is keeping the option of a mandate in favour of his wife if the party refuses to consider him," he added. Sources disclose that there is lot of resentment against Singh who had openly shown dissent against the decision of the party to give mandate to Azad from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary seat from where he was the sitting MP. "Singh had declared himself as the party candidate for another term till party decided to give mandate to a reluctant Azad who eventually lost to BJP candidate Dr. Jitendra Singh. Lal Singh and his wife both have been Congress MLAs in the State Legislative Assembly and Singh has also been a Cabinet Minister. However, the couple has of late been in news for encroachment of hundreds of kanals of state land, for which a petition is pending in the State High Court. |
