| Violence erupts in Dooru following 'drowning incident' | | | Saahil Suhail Anantnag, Jun 24: Violent clashes between locals and police broke out in Dooru when local came to roads to stage protest and allegedly tried to torch the sub office at Irrigation Department alleging negligence of irrigation department resulting into trapping of three teenage girls in sudden water level rise in irrigation Dam at Chinigund area.According to reports the three girls almost drowned in the dam when they were bathing when the water level swelled at the irrigation dam suddenly. "However two girls were rescued by the locals while search for the third is on till last reports came in, sources added. The teen identified namely as Misbah Jan d/o Mohd Ayoub Rather, Naziya Jan d/o Mohd Ishaq and Meena Jan d/o Mohd Ishaq. "The rescued girls were evacuated to Srinagar in a critical condition reports reaching here said while the search for tracing the third is on, sources added.Official sources said that during the clashes agitated locals have torched some part of the sub office of irrigation department in the locality to give vent to their ire. Locals accusing utter negligence on the part of department as the water level rose suddenly and tragedy occurred.Meanwhile district administration has put army and CRPF on alert call in the area to control the law and order situation. |
