SRINAGAR, July 7: At a time when government is all set to relocate old Bus stand of Batamaloo to Parimpora, Transporters protesting against the move allege that few influential people are behind the move and trying to snatch their means of livelihood. Members of Kashmir Traders Federation (KTF) and Western Bus Stand Association (WBSA) who protested here today said that instead of any relief from government to pay their pending bank debt few influential people are using their influence to relocate the age old bus stand to a remote location for their personal gains. Dozens of transporters tried to March towards Lal chowk, however the police swung in actions and detained many of them.Transporters protesting against the proposed relocation displayed placards and shouted slogans against the administration. They said the relocation will render thousands of people jobless. Transporters said that people coming to different villages of North,South and Central Kashmir to Srinagar for various purposes will have to face problems in commuting to Parimpora which is a remote location. "I cannot understand how the bus stand causes traffic jams in Lal Chowk," said a transporter. |
