| 67 years down the line BJP yet to understand problem of DPs | | Politics of deceit | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 7: The BJP, which till the other day claimed that it was the champion of displaced persons (DPs) from PoJK and was fully aware of the problems and needs of these refugees and victims of fanaticism and the atrocious two-nation theory and umpteen times got votes from them,on Monday exposed itself and its politics of deceit and bluff. The president of the J&K unit of the BJP and MP from Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency, which houses bulk of the DPs, on the occasion of the 114 birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, said that the BJP was not fully aware of the issues facing the DPs and that today he took decision to constitute a committee charged with the responsibility of looking into the grievances and demands of the DPs. Jugal Kishore Sharma also urged the committee members to suggest ways and means for the early solution to the problems being faced by the DPs. "It is disgusting that the 67 years down the line the BJP, which hoodwinked and misled the DPs and played with their sentiments election after election to get their votes, said that it did not know the problems of these refugees. This is the BJP," said a leader of this social group while reacting to the ridiculous announcement of president of the state unit of the BJP. "We the DPs committed a blunder by pinning faith in the BJP and voting for it. The BJP is party of cheats, bluffers, power-hungry politicians, and unscrupulous elements. It would be a crime against God and humanity to trust it any longer. It has not only cheated us, but it has cheated the entire population of Jammu region," said he, adding that "the BJP will not win a single seat in the next assembly elections". He appears to be correct. The situation as it prevails today in Jammu region does suggest that the BJP will be completely wiped out in the Jammu region. There are nearly one million DPs inhabiting different parts of Jammu region, and these also include those who migrated from Kashmir province's PoK and adjoining areas in 1947-1948 in the wake of partition. Thousands and thousands of non-Muslim victims, Hindus and Sikhs included, vacated Muzzaffarbad and its adjoining areas to save their lives and escape conversion and persecution. They all migrated to Jammu region, which always stood for liberal ethos, spirit of accommodation, brotherhood and peaceful co-existence. They have been holding protest demonstrations in Jammu and elsewhere at regular intervals ever since their migration and their demands included their proper rehabilitation and compensation for the properties they left behind. Their leadership repeatedly submitted their charter of demands to the BJP and other political parties, besides holding meetings with central leaders and parliamentary committees of which the BJP also used to be part. The BJP is fully aware of the issues facing the DPs. That's the reason its "vision Document 2014" said that the BJP, if voted to power, will not only reserve "five seats out of 24 reserved in the Assembly for PoJK", but will also "settle the genuine claims from PoJK". The fact of the matter is that the BJP constituted the so-called committee only to befool the struggling DPs. It's no wonder that the leadership of the DPs has pooh-poohed and ridiculed the BJP and its readership and dismissed the BJP as a "party of bluffers, dishonest and utterly undependable small time politicians and rank opportunists". |
