Mr Nirmal, people of Jammu region not foolish
9 questions for BJP
7/8/2015 12:31:12 AM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 7: Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Monday said the BJP would not compromise on national interests in J&K and pull out of the PDP-led government "if it feels that it has become difficult to continue in the ruling coalition government". "Our coalition in J&K is not an ideological alliance, but an alliance of governance. No doubt problems arise because we have our own agenda and the coalition partner has a different agenda. The day the BJP feels that it has become difficult to continue in the coalition, we will opt out of the government," Nirmal Singh said while addressing a function in Jammu after unveiling the statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
Now that Nirmal Singh has commended what he called alliance of governance, talked about national interest and BJP agenda, it is imperative for him to answer the following questions.
1. What is this an alliance of governance all about?
2. What did he mean when he said that "we have our own agenda"? What is the BJP Agenda?
3. How could he have the audacity to talk about the national interest, when the agenda of alliance completely negates all that Mookerjee fought for all through his life and sacrificed his life in Kashmir?
4. Does the BJP consider Jammu & Kashmir an integral part of India? If yes, why does the agenda of alliance say that Pakistan and Hurriyat leaders are also stakeholders in the state? What has the BJP to say about this outrageous break-India formulation?
5. Is the BJP for one constitution and one flag? If yes, why is it part of that politico-constitutional set-up that considers Jammu & Kashmir Constitution and the state's red flag as sacrosanct? If yes, why does the agenda of alliance say that the politico-constitutional status as the state enjoys under Article 370 shall be maintained at all costs?
6. How could he talk about the national interest when he himself accuses India of using the state land and state water and that too within the premises of Jammu & Kashmir Legislature and virtually threatens that the coalition government will force New Delhi to hand over to the state government the NHPC-maintained and controlled power projects in the state? Does he support the stand of the Congress, the NC and Kashmiri separatists on the NHPC projects in the state? If not, why did he charge New Delhi with exploiting the state waters and misusing the state land?
7. How could he remember Mookerjee when he enters the BJP office in a car fitted with red flag against which Mookerjee fought relentlessly?
8. How could he talk about an alliance of governance when he himself humiliates and taunts the people of Jammu region in Jammu itself by telling them that no power on earth could "snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established in Jammu"?
9. How could he say what he said on Monday when he himself plays second fiddle to a party that in his own presence outraged the sentiments of the people of Jammu region by declaring in Jammu itself that the sanctioned AIIMS for Jammu will be established in Kashmir and the artificial lake project over Tawi River could be shelved for technical and financial reasons?
The Deputy Chief Minister must answer these questions. The people of Jammu region are not foolish. They know everything. They know that the BJP has rigorously excluded their region from the state cabinet and administration. They know that the BJP has bartered the interests and rights of their region for the sake of power. They also know the implications of what the BJP has been doing in Jammu & Kashmir since it became part of the establishment. They want definite answers to these simple and straight questions. Nirmal Singh, or for that matter, the BJP as a party, needs to answer all these questions to satisfy the people of Jammu region. They just can't take the people of Jammu region for a ride.
