| Gun factory owners fail to honor agreement | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 7: Giving a damn to the agreement with its workers, the Gangyal gun factory owners did not release the salary of their workers rather indulged in heated arguments with them telling them to work on contract basis. Sources told Early Times that as per agreement the July 7, 2015 had been fixed for the clearances of all due salaries of workers along with other demands but gun factory owners showing thump to the agreement, went into heated arguments with their workers. "The gun factory owners had promised the workers to pay their monthly salaries and the leave salaries which were pending for the last two years today itself but to their utter dismay, when workers reached their respective factories with a hope that all their pending dues will be cleared today which will mitigate their sufferings, they had to face the wrath of the arrogant employers which led to heated argument with workers," they said. Seeing haughty attitude of their owners, all employees raised slogans against the owners. Surprisingly the whole episode took place in presence of Labour Officer Shiv Kumar, who was indirectly supporting the owners. "It was the duty of Labour officer to ensure the implementation of the agreement by the gun factory owners with letter and spirit but instead of sorting out the issues, he just played the role of a mute spectator," they alleged. Sources alleged that owners were seen coercing their workers to work on contract basis/ piece rate or leave the job but Labour Department did not take any action against the owners who refused to implement the agreement. Feeling ditched, workers are mulling to re-launch agitation against the owners and the concerned department which failed to protest the legitimate rights of the working class. "After nearly one month long agitation by gun factory workers, the agreement between the workers and owners had reached on June 13, 2015 at SDM office Jammu and it had to be implemented within 15 days from the agreement day but it has been more 24 days but till date none of the demand has been fulfilled," they said. |
