| Nirmal Singh's statement of coming out of alliance with PDP nothing but a 'trick' | | Wants to keep people of Jammu in loop happy as well | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 7: Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh's statement that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) can walk out of the alliance with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu & Kashmir is nothing but a 'trick' to keep the people of state more so Jammu region in the loop and happy as well. Dr. Nirmal as well as other BJP leaders fully understood that the party may not get a golden chance yet again to form the government in the state. In order to keep the people of Jammu people happy the Deputy Chief Minister made the statement about walking out of the alliance of the government. More than four months after forming the government in the state with PDP, the BJP has not been able to fulfill the demands of the people of Jammu region. The party made many promises with the people of Jammu region but those promises have remained promises with no action being taken so far. Before the formation of government in the state the BJP had said that citizenship rights would be given to the West Pakistan refugees. However, after the formation of the government the party dropped the idea and they compromised with the citizenship rights of West Pakistan refugees. The party diluted its stand and instead of granting citizenship rights the party compromised to providing livelihood to the West Pakistan refugees. BJP's plan of creating artificial lake in Tawi river was opposed tooth and nail by chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. In a face saving exercise Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhandan Kumar said the plan is on and there would not be any compromise in it. Since the project has been opposed by chief minister it is quite possible that the plan may be shelved at the end of the day. Leaders of both BJP and PDP have been maintaining from day one that the coalition government would be based on principles of governance and justice. They also said that the varying ideological position of the two parties would never come in way of providing a good government to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. As such the ministers of both PDP and BJP would be advised to devote their attention of providing good governance to the people instead of issuing statements that leads to confusion among masses. At the same time the statements give an opportunity to the leaders of National Conference and Congress to take dig at the functioning of the coalition government. Dr. Nirmal would be advised to set the things right in the ministries and departments being looked after by him. He should ensure that there are minimum power cuts in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions since the summer season is at peak in the state. The deputy chief minister should also take steps that would inject a new life in the Housing and Urban Development department as this department is also being looked after by him. |
